Support Groups
Caregiver support groups allow caregivers to come together to share resources, compassion, and understanding.  Some support groups are geared towards a very specific topic while others are more general.  Click here for a list of Caregiver support groups in your area.

Respite Care
The purpose of respite care is to temporarily relieve those caring for elders who require 24-hour care.  Respite Care may be provided in the home or at a center for brief or extended periods of time.  Bristol may provide respite services for eligible elders and their families.  Interested elders may contact Bristol at (508) 675-2101 for Bristol Respite eligibility and service guidelines.  Click here for a list of Respite Care Providers.

Day Care Programs
There are two types of day care programs available to elders, Adult Day Health and Supportive Day Care.  Selection of a day care program is determined by the needs and wishes of the elder and the family.  Most centers that offer these programs are located along public transportation routes, and scheduled transportation can often be arranged.

Supportive Day Care Centers provide a structured place where elders can gather and socialize.  Social Day Care Centers are staffed, meals are available, and various activities such as day trips are regularly scheduled.  To be eligible for a social day care program, elders must be able to take care of their own personal needs and manage their own medications.  Hours and days of operation may vary.  Click here for a list of Supportive Day Care Centers.

Adult Day Health Care Centers provide a secure environment for elders with health or medical concerns.  Adult Day Health Centers offer recreational activities and meals.  They also have a medically trained staff who can assist elders with medications, nutrition, personal hygiene, and safety. Click here for a list of Adult Day Health Centers, or here for a list of specialized Dementia Day Care Centers.

Medicaid may cover the cost of care at an Adult Day Health Center.  Elders with Medicaid benefits should request an Adult Day Health screening by contacting Bristol at (508) 675-2101.  Bristol may also help coordinate care and defray the cost of day care for eligible elders and their families.  Contact Bristol for eligibility guidelines.
