What are they and what transportation do they provide?
City or town departments that provide services to elders.  Many Councils on Aging provide transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and social activities.  For more information about your local Council on Aging, click here.


MassHealth Transportation     Top of Page

What is it?
Local and long distance medical transportation funded by the Massachusetts Division of Medical Assistance.  
Who’s eligible?
MassHealth recipients who have a completed PT-1 form.

Is there a cost?
No. 

How do I obtain a PT-1 form?
Contact Bristol Elder Services at (508) 675-2101 or e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  to request help with a PT-1 form.  You may also call (800) 841-2900 to request a PT-1 form be completed by your medical doctor.

Are reservations required?
Yes.  You must schedule your transportation at least three days prior to the ride.

Greater Attleboro/Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA)     Top of Page

What is it?
Public transportation via fixed bus routes.  GATRA also offers a Dial-a-Ride program for elders and disabled persons.  Dial-a-Ride provides curb-to-curb transportation service for medical appointments, shopping, and social activities.

Who’s eligible?
There are no eligibility requirements for the bus service.  Medical certification is required to use the Dial-a-Ride program. 

What areas are served?
Greater Attleboro and Greater Taunton.

Is there a cost?
Yes.  Discounted fares are available for elders. 

How do I use the service?
Call (800) 483-2500 for bus schedule and fare information or to request an application for the Dial-a-Ride program.

How can I learn about the bus routes and using bus service?
GATRA offers a travel training program.  An instructor assists you on a one-on-one basis to learn how to use the public transportation system.

What is it?
Public transportation via fixed bus routes.  SRTA also offers a Demand-Response program for elders and disabled persons.  Demand-Response provides curb-to-curb transportation service for medical appointments, shopping and social activities.

Who’s eligible?
There are no eligibility requirements for the bus service.  Medical certification is required to use the Demand-Response program. 

What areas are served?
Greater Fall River.

Is there a cost?
Yes.  Discounted fares are available for elders.

WHEELS Program - Foxfield Transportation     Top of Page

What is it? 
A program that provides door-to-door, handicapped accessible, non-emergency, long-distance medical transportation to Boston (including the Lahey Clinic), Providence, and Norwood/Foxboro/Mansfield area medical facilities.  The service operates on a fixed schedule.

Who’s eligible? 
Individuals aged 60 and over.

What areas are served?   
Greater Attleboro, Greater Fall River, and Greater Taunton.

Is there a cost? 
No.  However, a donation is requested.  The suggested round trip donation is $25.00 for trips to Boston, Providence, and Lahey Clinic, and $10.00 for trips to Norwood/Foxboro/Mansfield.

What is the schedule?

CARE WHEELS Program - Foxfield Transportation, Inc.     Top of Page

What is it? 
A program designed to help caregivers by providing local transportation assistance to elders attending dialysis or radiation treatments.  Transportation relief is limited to three times per month per caregiver.  The transportation is handicapped accessible.  

Who’s eligible? 
Elders who rely on a caregiver to provide transportation to dialysis, radiation treatments, or adult day care centers.  Transportation is provided to relieve the caregiver who normally provides it. 

What areas does Bristol serve?   
Attleboro, Mansfield, North Attleboro, Norton, Raynham, and Taunton.

Is there a cost? 
No.  However, a donation is requested.  The suggested round trip donation is $10.00 per trip.

What is it?

Dighton, Fall River, Freetown, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Somerset, Swansea, and Wesport.

No.  However, a donation is requested.
